What you may be dealing with

Look at the lift and the training week

The load, sets, range and recent programming changes all matter. We look at the painful lift in the context of your whole training week.

01 /

Squat and deadlift pain

Back, hip or knee pain at certain depths or loads.

02 /

Pressing and overhead pain

Shoulder or elbow pain on bench, jerk, snatch or pull-ups.

03 /

Stalled progress

A joint or muscle that will not let you add load.

04 /

Technique limitations

Mobility that limits depth, rack position or overhead lockout.

05 /

Time off

Returning after a tweak or surgery and unsure how to ramp up.

Conditions we help with

Lifting-related issues we see

The same problems occur across barbell and mixed-modality sports, with different training solutions.

Training changes follow your symptoms, recovery and any post-operative restrictions.

  • Low back pain with squats and deadlifts
  • Hip pain and pinching
  • Knee pain and tendon irritation
  • Shoulder pain with pressing or overhead
  • Elbow and wrist pain
  • Muscle strains
  • Mobility limits for lifts
  • Post-operative return to lifting

Our approach

Adjust training while rebuilding capacity

We try to keep as much training as safely possible while we address the underlying problem.

  1. 01

    Review your training

Programming, volume, recent changes and which lifts provoke symptoms.

  2. 02

    Test mobility and strength

Where positions are limited and where your strength is uneven.

  3. 03

    Modify where appropriate

Change variations, ranges, loads or tempo when safe. Explain any movement or load that needs a temporary pause.

  4. 04

    Rebuild load

Progress back toward your main lifts in measured steps.

A tolerable variation is a starting point, not the final goal

A squat may need a temporary change in depth or load; a deadlift, a different starting height; a bench or overhead press, a change in grip, angle or range. Pain does not automatically mean poor technique. Your exam and response guide the adjustment.

We track how the session feels and how symptoms respond afterward, then progressively rebuild load and weekly volume. Suitable work for unaffected areas helps you maintain training while the painful lift progresses.

Good to know

Common questions.

Will you tell me to stop lifting?

We look for suitable variations, loads and volume so you can maintain training. If a movement needs a temporary pause, we explain why and plan how to reintroduce it.

Can I train the rest of my body while I am injured?

Usually yes. Unaffected areas can often keep training, which supports your recovery.

Do you do technique coaching?

We assess movement and limitations and coach positions relevant to your rehab. We do not replace your strength coach.

Can you help with a nagging injury that is not painful enough to stop me?

Yes. We assess what provokes the symptoms and look at load, volume and exercise selection so you have a plan before adding more training demand.

Is it safe to lift heavy after surgery?

That depends on the surgery and healing. We follow your surgeon's guidance and progress loading in steps.

Do I need a referral?

You can usually start with an evaluation without a referral under Florida's direct-access rules. Continuing care may require a referral, and insurance requirements vary; ask us about care requirements and your insurer about coverage.

How does payment work, and do you accept insurance?

We offer out-of-network and self-pay care, accept HSA/FSA cards, and bill Medicare directly. See our Insurance and Payment page for rates, superbills and plan-dependent reimbursement details.

How long are appointments?

Your evaluation and follow-up visits are full 60-minute, one-on-one sessions with the same physical therapist, with time for treatment, exercise and questions.
